Local Candidates Qualify
The deadline for candidates wishing to seek office in
the upcoming February election has come and gone. There are only two
local positions up for election, Loudon County Assessor of Property and
2nd District County Commission, seat "B". A total of seven candidates
have filed for the two positions. In the contest for Property Assessor, current assessor, Chuck Jenkins has qualified for the election. Also seeking the assessors seat are Loudon County Purchasing and Maintenance Director, Leo Bradshaw. Also vying for the seat will be Loudon resident Freddie G. McCrary. All three will be running on the republican ticket. No democrats qualified for the race. This means that the winner of the February republican primary will win the office with no opposition in the August general election. In the run for 2nd District County Commission seat "B", a total of four candidates, 3 republicans and 1 democrat, have qualified to seek the seat. On the republican ticket will be Loudon County Sheriff's Deputy, Tony Arden, Lenoir City resident and Realtor, Shirley Reno and Attorney, Austin Shaver. On the democratic ticket will be Lenoir City Parks and Recreation employee, William B. Jenkins. As the lone democrat, William B. Jenkins will automatically advance to the August general election to face the winner of the republican primary. Early voting begins January 16th with the election to be held February 5th. More information on the candidates and their positions and backgrounds coming at a later date. |
