Let's Just Wait And See

County Commissioners seemed less that impressed by the reaction of at least two Lenoir City Board Of Education members who showed little appreciation for commission's attempt to hand them free money. At Monday's commission meeting, commissioners, led by Commissioner Nancy Marcus, discussed putting on hold any revenue sharing of the new Adequate Schools Facility Tax with Lenoir City. Lenoir City BOE members, dissatisfied with their share of the new tax, previously had voted to ask for an Attorney General's opinion to see if they should be entitled to a larger piece of the tax pie.

Commissioners will vote at next Monday's commission meeting on whether to postpone an earlier vote to share 15% of the tax revenues with the LCBOE and to wait on the outcome of the requested AG opinion. If the AG opines that no sharing is required under the new law, commission may choose not to give any of the tax to the city. There are no requirements in the new law requiring the county to share any of the revenues.
