Lenoir City school security task force set to meet Friday

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Lenoir City mayor announced the community would be forming a School Safety Task Force in light of the February 14 shooting at a Florida school that killed 17 people.

On Monday, Mayor Tony Aikens announced he would be working with Lenoir City School Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Barker to form a task force that will be made up of city officials, school officials, parents and students.

The task force was set to focus on assessing current school safety measures, and collaborating to identify any additional areas the community may find concerning.

Mayor Aikens announced he would be taking a proactive stance on the safety and security of students, staff and faculty at Lenoir City Schools.

The School Safety Task Force was set to meet on Friday, March 9, at 2 p.m., at Lenoir City Hall, located at 530 Hwy. 321 N., Suite 200, in Lenoir City.
