The first baby to be born at Blount Memorial Hospital in 2024 is already making a mark on Blount County.

Hollis Arlo McKee made his debut two days into 2024, among the latest-arriving of the hospital’s Baby New Years, according to The Daily Times’ archives. His parents, Lenoir City residents Rachel Parton and Stevie McKee, welcomed their son at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The baby’s birth weight was 6 pounds, 10.3 ounces. A press release from Blount Memorial quotes Parton and McKee as saying, “We would like to thank the amazing staff and Dr. Turner for delivering our healthy baby boy.”

In a tradition stretching back decades, the hospital is marking the birth of the first baby of the year, sending the baby and his family home with a few mementos: a gift basket and a onesie marked ‘Baby New Year.’

Former reporting from The Daily Times states that the hospital’s first registered patient also gave birth to the first baby to be born at Blount Memorial.
