Lenoir City nonprofit up for $5,000 grant

LENOIR CITY (WATE) – A Lenoir City
nonprofit therapeutic riding group is among 19 nonprofit
organizations up for a $5,000 grant from Regions Bank and
100 volunteer hours from Regions associates.
Each of the 19 nonprofits will receive at least 50 volunteer service hours and a $500 grant as part of Regions annual “What a Difference a Day Makes” program. The local group nominated was Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding. Officials say they have multiple uses for the money and the hours if they win. “First off, we want associates from Regions to attend our training to actually work in classes with our participants. That is by far the best way to understand the “STAR” experience and help a participant directly. Additionally, we need people to hand out ribbons at our annual horse show and need help with our fall fundraiser – a 5k race and mini mile. We also would arrange a work day to tackle some of the many maintenance chores that are necessary with a 63-acre facility. With the $5,000 we would like to be able to invest in education for our staff, for an organization is only as good as the people who run it,” said STAR director Lynn Petr. Online visitors can learn more about the mission of STAR and other contestants by visiting the “What a Difference a Day Makes” program landing page at www.regionsbanknews.com/makeadifference. Visitors can then vote for their favorite nonprofit. Online voting will take place throughout the month of June. |
