LENOIR CITY — A Lenoir City man is behind bars today charged in the fatal weekend shooting of his son.

Larry Preston Hensley, age 58, of 280 Harmon Lane, is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the Sunday night slaying of 36-year-old Steven Preston Hensley.

According to a news release from Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider, Larry Hensley dialed 911 Sunday evening to report the shooting at 195 Duggan Road.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground near a garage, the release states. He'd been shot at least once in the leg and groin area.

Larry Hensley admitted to deputies that he shot his son during a verbal fight, the release states.

"He stated his son pushed him down and that he got off the ground to defend himself, warning his son he was armed," the release states. "When his son came toward him again, the father fired a shot which hit him in the leg."

The shot hit a major artery, according to the release, and Steven Hensley later died at University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Larry Hensley was booked into the Loudon County Jail and as of this evening was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
