Kentucky man charged in large pot bust

A report Dec. 6 of a reckless driver on Interstate 75 led to the arrest of a Kentucky man who had 8 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

LCSO Deputy Dalton Harrison found a vehicle on the exit ramp with the driver, later identified as Lance James Alston, passed out behind the wheel and the vehicle still in drive. Harrison suspected Alston was impaired and arrested him for driving under the influence.

While speaking with Alston, Harrison noticed a “strong odor” of alcohol and saw an open liquor bottle in the passenger seat. Alston performed poorly on field sobriety testing.

During an inventory of the vehicle, Harrison opened the trunk and smelled a “strong odor” of marijuana.

“Inside a large black trash bag, I located seven vacuum-sealed bags and (one) loose bag of approximately 8.05 pounds of marijuana along with two scales with residue,” Harrison wrote in a report. “Narcotics was notified and arrived on scene.”
Deputies found $546 in Alston’s right shorts pocket.
Alston, 37, Lexington, Ky., was charged with manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule VI substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of implied consent and released on $23,000 bond.
“This is a great stop for Deputy Dalton,” LCSO Sgt. Matt Fagiana said. “It’s a reminder that our deputies are working 24 hours a day to stop drunk drivers, to remove illegal narcotics from our community and save lives. It’s a process that starts with our 911 dispatchers taking those calls and getting the information to our deputies in the field to get them where they need to be. What one call comes in as can instantly turn into an entirely different story — a reckless driver call turns intoxicated driver turns drug trafficker.”
Parking lot dispute leads to assault

A Lenoir City teenager was arrested after a dispute broke out regarding an unauthorized vehicle in a handicapped parking spot.
According to a report from Lenoir City Police Inv. Jonathan Yates, a woman who is a property manager for a Lenoir City apartment complex reported being assaulted Dec. 6.
The woman saw a gray Toyota without proper permits parked in a handicapped spot. She told officers the owner of the vehicle had been a problem on “numerous occasions.”

“As she approached to have the car moved, a passenger identified as Christian Gonzalez began yelling and cursing at her,” Yates wrote in a report. “She identified herself as the property manager and asked to have the car moved. Mr. Gonzalez reportedly made threatening gestures, cursed and put his hand on an unknown object in his waistband. (The woman) states she believed it to be a gun and was afraid she was going to be injured.”

The woman, as well as other witnesses, reported they believed Gonzalez had a gun, although no one saw a weapon, Yates wrote in a report.

Gonzalez, 18, Lenoir City, was charged with assault and released on $1,500 bond.

Man jailed for evading

Law enforcement arrested a Loudon man Dec. 7 after a brief pursuit.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mark Rodriguez witnessed a white Chevrolet pickup truck on Highway 72 at Roberson Springs Road going 15 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. The driver tapped his brakes unnecessarily and swerved into another lane.

Rodriguez then stopped the driver for suspicion of driving under the influence on Steekee Road at Steekee School Road.
The vehicle continued south and Rodriguez began a pursuit that ended at a residence on Wade Road West. Rodriguez placed Brian Dewayne Maynard under arrest without incident.
“Mr. Maynard told me during the pursuit he was having a conversation with me telepathically and in this ‘conversation’ I told him to go home to his mother,” Rodriguez wrote in a report. The deputy spoke with a relative of Maynard who said he has been having mental health issues and refused to seek help.
