Jr.'s Back In Charge

In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, Lenoir City Council reversed it's previous decision to allow Lenoir City judge Terry Vann to be in charge of the city court clerk's position and handed the job back to treasurer/recorder Bobby Johnson Jr.

At the end of Monday's city council meeting, the council entered into a closed door executive session before they adjourned. After returning to the meeting, council voted to add an item to the agenda. The item was a vote to return the responsibility of city court clerk to Johnson Jr. Councilman, Mike Henline made the motion, seconded by Buddy Hines to rescind the earlier ordinance which had given the clerk position to the judge. The vote was unanimous. Rescinding that ordinance effetely returned the city court clerk responsibilities to Johnson as the charter requires. Absent from the meeting were councilman Tony Aikens and Mayor Matt Brookshire.

Council gave no indication why the executive session was called nor why the sudden change of heart on the clerk's position. However, Treasurer/Recorder, Bobby Johnson Jr. had recently sent a letter to District Attorney, Russell Johnson asking him to investigate the matter.
