Indiana man arrested after fearing for life
 
A Salem, Ind., man is facing a felony possession of firearm charge after he called law enforcement believing he was being followed on Interstate 40.
 
Dispatch informed Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Paul Clendenen that James Michael Gates, 42, said he feared for his life and needed to be placed in protective custody after he called ISIS on his former employer.
 
“While speaking with the driver, James Gates, he advised that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia,” Clendenen wrote in the report.
 
Gates was found with a 20-gauge shotgun and three fixed blade knives longer than 4 inches each inside the vehicle, according to the report. While at the hospital, Clendenen was informed Gates was a convicted felon for assault with intent to murder.
 
Gates was charged with unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon and held on $30,000 bond.

• Shelby Leigh Russell, 25, Lenoir City, was charged with domestic assault and released on $1,000 bond. Dispatched to a possible domestic assault on Glenview Circle, Lenoir City Police Officer Caleb Green overheard Russell screaming at a woman. After separating both women, Green spoke with the victim who said she recently sent Russell’s dogs to the Loudon County Animal Shelter. Russell became upset after coming home and realizing her dogs were missing, flashing a light into the woman’s face and screaming at her. “(The woman) stated (Russell) grabbed a broom and attempted to hit her with it,” Green wrote in the report. “(Russell) then left the room, grabbed a remote and began hitting her car with the remote.”

• April Lenore Lowery, 42, Loudon, was charged with theft under $1,000 and held on $1,000 bond.
 
• Marsha Ann McNabb, 50, Loudon, was charged with domestic assault-felony and released on $2,500 bond. Dispatched to Wade Road West for a domestic dispute, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies TJ Scarbrough and Tony Branson spoke with a man who said he was at the barn when McNabb became upset over a girl’s saddle pad. McNabb allegedly pushed the girl to the ground and started yelling at her. “(The girl) ... stated that Mrs. McNabb got into her face and started yelling and came at her as if she was going to stab her,” Branson wrote in the report. The situation started over a lost purse, according to Branson. Both the man and girl had bumps and scratches on them.

May 13

• Justin Marshall Graves, 26, Loudon, was charged with aggravated domestic assault and held on $4,000 bond.
 
• Jennifer Denise Kirkland, 42, Philadelphia, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and littering and held on $4,000 bond.
 
• Tanner Jacob Kuhn, 20, Maryville, was charged with underage consumption and disorderly conduct and released on $3,000 bond. Dispatched to Tennessee Avenue for a disturbance, LCSO Deputy Brandon Pesterfield saw Kuhn sitting on the back porch steps of the address. Kuhn had a strong odor of alcohol. Kuhn said he was sitting on the back porch when the homeowner came outside, placed his hand on Kuhn’s shoulder and told him not to move. Kuhn thought he was at his brother’s house on Walnut Street, which was one street over. “(The homeowner) stated he was inside his residence when he heard someone on the back porch of the residence,” Pesterfield wrote in the report. “(The homeowner) grabbed his flashlight and exited the residence and witnessed Mr. Kuhn on the porch. (The homeowner) held Mr. Kuhn until law enforcement could arrive.”

• Elmer Emanuel Cano, 25, Lenoir City, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a valid license and violation of implied consent and held without bond.
 
• Michael Bradley Murphy, 21, Lenoir City, was charged with domestic assault-misdemeanor and vandalism and held without bond.
