I Saw It

Tuesday night when I got home from a meeting, I just happened to look up in the sky and saw the strangest thing. It looked like a bright light in a hazy cloud. I first thought it was an airplane flying through the clouds with a bright light, but the sky was crystal clear. I kept watching as it moved very fast across the sky. It looked like it was swirling. I watched till it went out of sight. I just decided it was some kind of weird atmosphere anomaly and I would never know what I had seen.

Later that evening, I was scrolling through local news sites and there it was.

From WBIR Weather

We’ve received a few questions from folks who saw something strange in the sky this evening.

The first photo was taken in Lenoir City by Dwayne Haskell.

Here is the answer from Brad Panovich, a meteorologist at our sister station in Charlotte, NC:

“Pretty cool to see the spiral vapor trail from the orbital burn for COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation satellite over the middle of the U.S.” It was launched earlier this evening from Cape Canaveral in Florida, circled the earth and we got to see some of the vapor trail here in TN. Neat!

The weather man was right, it was neat to see. But even more neat was to find out what I had seen. Who knows what all's flying around over our heads at any given time.
