I Despise It, Social Media

It's safe to say Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, had a bad time at last Monday's council meeting. Aside form councilman Todd Kennedy casting three NO votes on Aikens agenda, he first had to deal with some citizens who attended the meeting and one gentleman who addressed the mayor and council. Aikens doesn't take well to anybody that doesn't tow the line.

Lenoir City resident, Wayne Collins, addressed the council during the public comment time on the matter of all the annexations and rezoning that would allow 300 more apartments. He got pretty hot. Aikens ultimately tells him to take a seat.

After Mr. Collins comments, Aikens felt compelled to address social media. Never mind that no one had mentioned social media at all. But apparently, Aikens seems to believe social media is his problem, in fact one of the worst things to ever happen to the country. He said he despised social media even though he has a Facebook page as does most of his family and council members. What he really means is, he hates social media that lets people know what's going on in the city.

Later in the meeting, after Kennedy had voted NO, Aikens went on another rant about his opinion of what's going on in the city. He says he thinks things are going great but if "I" am going in the wrong direction, I'm sure the voters will let him know in November. He doesn't say if he and the council are going in the wrong direction, he says if he's going in the wrong direction. More evidence, Aikens is calling all the shots for the rest of the council, except Kennedy.

I would strongly encourage everyone to watch the video of this meeting and listen closely to what Aikens says.

Below is a link to the meeting video. The good stuff starts at about the 22:00 minute mark.
