I Appreciate You

I've had so many of you contact me about Lenoir City councilman, Eddie Simpson's plan to run against me in the next election. I sure appreciate your interest, concerns and support. Apparently, Mr. Simpson is spending a lot of his time out trying to drum up support for his campaign. But, if there's one thing I know, most folks don't want to hear from politicians during the holiday season.

As I've said before, I've never had an opponent I'm more comfortable comparing voting records with than Mr. Simpson. Voters will have a very clear choice to make between Mr. Simpson and myself.

Councilman Simpson has a very, very long voting record that he cannot deny or hide from. He's voted for every conceivable tax increase that a city councilman can vote for including multiple property tax increases and his infamous Rain Tax. He has voted for every mass development and low income apartment complex that has applied to locate in the city with no regard to the impact these developments will have on the schools and infrastructure. He has voted for huge property tax breaks for his developer friends while at the same time voting to raise property taxes on all Lenoir City property owners, most recently July 2021. The list goes on and on and will be discussed at length and in detail as the campaign goes on.

I just don't believe the voters of the fifth district want to see Loudon County adopt the kind of policies Mr. Simpson supports. After the first of the year, it will be time to go into full campaign mode, where we can clearly make our positions known to the voters. I don't think voters want the kind of "Change" Mr. Simpson would bring.

Given his history of Lenoir City council votes and his past presidential voting record, I'm not sure if Simpson intends to run as a Democrat or a Republican. Guess we'll find out in February.

"Change Is Good" sounds too much like "Hope And Change" and we all know how that worked out.
