Hyde Files Suit

Blount County resident, Mitchell Hyde, has filed suit against the Loudon County Board of Zoning Appeals. Hyde, owner of Hyde Farms on Hwy. 411, had requested a special exception to operate a commercial slaughterhouse on his property.

Mr. Hyde had to meet certain requirements to receive the special exception. Most importantly, he was required to tie his slaughterhouse operation to the public sewer system in front of his business. Mr. Hyde had not yet met the public sewer hook up requirement for his business at the time he was denied the special exception.

Hyde has been operating a private slaughterhouse for about a year when he decided to go commercial. As a private slaughterhouse, he is allowed to haul the waste from the slaughter processes and dump it on the ground at a different location. As a commercial operation, he must use the public sewer system for all his waste after pretreatment.

No date for the hearing has been set as of yet.
