Husband jailed in dispute over daughter’s boyfriend

A Sweetwater man was taken into custody after a domestic dispute with his wife about a letter his daughter received from an older man whom she was dating.

Dispatched to a call of a domestic dispute in the 3000 block of Clay Hollow Road, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ben Everett spoke with a woman at the end of her driveway. The woman told police that her husband, Christopher Scott Oakes, 38, Sweetwater, woke her up in an “angrily manner.” Oakes was holding a letter in his hand from their daughter’s boyfriend, according to Everett’s report.

Oakes told the woman that he was leaving and taking their son with him. The woman told Everett that Oakes left the home with the couple’s 6-year-old child.

“She did not want him to take their son with him because he was angry and it was in the middle of the night,” Everett wrote in his report.
While on the phone with 911, Oakes came back to the home and proceeded to tell the woman, “If I go to jail for this I swear to (expletive) God I will (expletive) shoot you,” according to Everett’s report.

The man again left the home with the couple’s son. Everett found Oakes at a nearby restaurant, and the man told police that he did wake his wife about a letter and that he was not happy that his daughter was dating an older man in the military.

Oakes was determined to be the primary aggressor in the incident and was taken to Loudon County Jail. He was charged with domestic assault and released on $2,500 bond.

DUI call leads to drug, weapons charges for pair

A Midway man and Athens woman were arrested on multiple drug, paraphernalia and weapons charges after getting pulled over on a routine driving under the influence stop.

At about 4:20 a.m. Friday, Loudon Police Officer Jonathan Yates responded to the call of a possible drunk driver along Interstate 75. Noticing the vehicle exiting the interstate onto Highway 72, Yates saw that the driver was not maintaining the lane of travel, and Yates stopped the vehicle in a gas station parking lot.

Yates spoke with the driver, Randi Danelle Thibault, 32, Midway, who displayed signs of intoxication, according to the arrest report. During the investigation, Yates saw two men in another car that had been following Thibault’s vehicle. According to Yates, the men were “paying specific attention to the actions of officers and drew the attention of officers.” The men told officers that they did not know Thibault, but information from a witness suggested that the men were not being forthcoming with police, according to the report.

After questioning the two men, police learned that the driver of the second vehicle, Jason Levi Hutchinson, 35, Athens, had a gun and methamphetamine in his pants pocket. Hutchinson was also found to have a suspended driver’s license. After running a criminal history check on Hutchinson, police learned that he was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The gun in Hutchinson’s possession was a .380 automatic pistol with a live round in the chamber and several rounds in the magazine, Yates said.
Hutchinson also had two bags of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The man admitted to selling meth. He also told police that he knew about more than 20 ounces of meth that was recovered from Thibault’s vehicle.
During questioning, Thibault “appeared confused and stated she had recently had surgery,” Yates wrote in his report. “Miss Thibault stated she had taken a muscle relaxer and diazepam a couple hours ago, but stated she felt the effects of the medication.”

A check through dispatch revealed that her license was suspended for failure to show proof of insurance. She refused implied consent.

Thibault was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a revoked/suspended license, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance, manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule III substance and manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance and held on $167,000 bond.

Hutchinson was charged with manufacture/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, driving on a revoked/suspended license, manufacture/sell/possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony and held on $102,000 bond.
