Hold Harmless

This is a big deal. The largest source of funding for local schools comes from the state through the BEP, Basic Education Program. The funding is bases on ADA, Average Daily Attendance. Given the COVID challenge of the past year, most schools saw a decrease in attendance. Normally, that would mean less funding from the state.

Fortunately, state legislators stepped up and passed legislation that would "hold harmless" all the school systems in the state by requiring the BEP to fund school systems at no less than the funding they received last year.

For Loudon County schools, this replaces hundreds of thousands of dollars that would have been lost which likely would have to have been made up with local tax dollars.

This was a big win for all Tennessee school systems.
