Hit-and-run leads to multiple charges

A Knoxville woman was charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault and attempted murder Thursday following a hit-and-run in March in Philadelphia.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy James Davis responded to a wreck with an injury on Interstate 75 in the early hours of March 4. Davis talked with the driver, who said he had been run off the road by an unknown vehicle.

The driver explained he had picked up three hitchhikers at the Sweetwater exit who offered him $100 for a ride to Knoxville. Soon after picking them up, he noticed a white car chasing him on the interstate. The driver said the white car was going roughly 100 mph and eventually struck his vehicle, causing him to go off the right side of the roadway.

After being hit, the vehicle rolled over and came to a halt after striking multiple trees. The white car fled the scene.

Davis talked with other passengers in the vehicle, who all confirmed the driver’s story. Two of the hitchhikers identified the driver of the white car as Khariah M. Blair, 25.

In addition to the driver and three hitchhikers, two minors were in the car. Both minors and one hitchhiker were transported to the hospital because of their injuries.

Davis located and photographed transferred white paint on the rear bumper of the man’s vehicle, and the case was referred to the Loudon County Criminal Investigations Division.

On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Smokey Mountains Fugitive Task Force located Blair in Knoxville and placed her under arrest. She was later transported to Loudon County Jail.

Blair was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and held on $250,000 bond.
