Growth Is Good?

It's hare to imagine, but there are still elected and appointed officials that still believe, growth is good, when it comes to residential development. You have to think they must have ulterior motives or they can't do simple math or they're just deaf, dumb and blind to what's happening right in front of them.

A few examples.

The city of Loudon is breaking ground on an 80 million dollar water treatment plant expansion to handle growth.

Loudon County tax payers are looking at a possible 30 cent property tax increase to handle school growth.

Lenoir City continues to raise taxes and is in a current campaign to raise the sales tax to pay for school growth.

Tellico Village is facing a 35 million dollar infrastructure improvement program to deal with growth.

Traffic in and out of the schools in the morning and afternoon is beyond capacity.

Traffic on the roads and streets all over the north end of the county are reaching absolute capacity from growth with absolutely no plans for any improvements.

Open space and rural areas are being devoured by developers, mostly in the cities.

And the list goes on.

Most people with just a fraction of common since can understand the problems and can see the causes. Unfortunately, most folks in our city governments don't have a clue or just don't care.

Yeah right, growth is good, but for who.
