Greenback
woman dies in crash on Big Springs Road
A Greenback woman died Sunday night when the car in which she was a
passenger veered off Big Springs Road and hit a tree.
Patricia Ellison, 26, of Meadow Road, Greenback, was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Driver Debra Ellison, also of Meadow Road, and another
passenger, Willard Jefferies, of Comfort Avenue, Maryville, were
also taken to Blount Memorial. Ellison was listed in stable
condition Monday evening. Jefferies was treated and released.
According to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp, Debra Ellison
was driving her 2001 Nissan Maxima west on Big Springs near
Bridgeway Drive at 9:21 p.m. when she lost control of her
vehicle and traveled off the side of the road. She tried to
correct by veering in the other direction, Crisp said, at which
point she crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic and hit a
tree. Patricia Ellison was sitting behind her, in the rear
passenger seat.
Crisp said police are still uncertain why Debra Ellison lost
control, although he said they do not believe alcohol or drugs
were factors.
