Greenback teenager charged with theft

A Greenback teenager is facing theft charges after being found with a vehicle stuck in the mud.

Dispatched to Morganton Road in Greenback in reference to a juvenile walking on the road, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Charles Huskin met a 15-year-old boy who said he and a friend had gotten a vehicle stuck in the mud and he had left the truck and called his mother.

The juvenile led Huskin to the vehicle and Charles Christopher Durance, 18.

Durance claimed the vehicle was borrowed from a friend.

“(The boy) stated that he had been picked up by Durance in the truck at approximately 10:45 a.m. earlier that day in Blount County,” Huskin wrote in the report. “... The Ford Ranger came back stolen from Blount County. The vehicle had been reported stolen April 23, 2018, at approximately 3:40 a.m. and entered into NCIC.”

Durance later admitted stealing the truck from Blount County. He was also charged with theft after admitting he broke into a vehicle and took a .38-caliber Colt Mustang pistol and $1,000. Durance claimed he only took a couple hundred dollars from the scene.

Durance was charged with assisting other agency, two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle and three counts of theft of property and held on $50,000 bond.
