KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The Loudon County Sheriff's Office has confirmed it's investigating the actions of a woman who formerly worked for the Loudon County School System.

Investigators are looking into Amy Kennedy, 41, and her relationship with at least two high school students at Greenback School.

According to the Loudon County School System, the principal reported Kennedy in early December.

The school is saying very little about the investigation, but officials say Kennedy resigned in early December.

Parents say Kennedy was a teacher's aide and taught in lower level grades.

"I can tell you that the employee is no longer with Loudon County Schools or Greenback School, but there is a current investigation so I can't comment any further on that... She did resign," said Principal Joey Breedlove.

Investigators said they're looking into text messages between Kennedy and the students. They wouldn't say whether they're looking into any other inappropriate behavior.

Since it's an ongoing investigation, the school is unable to provide much information to parents.

"I assured them I would have a plan in place to have someone to fill in and those students would be taken care of. Other than that, there were no details. I couldn't give them any more than I could give you, unfortunately," Principal Breedlove said.

No one has been arrested, but the sheriff's office says there's a significant chance charges will eventually be filed.

VONORE - A Greenback woman jumped or fell into Tellico Lake about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after her vehicle crashed into the bridge on Highway 411 South in Vonore.

Amy Kennedy, 41, of Greenback was very lucky to survive the 65-foot drop to the water, according to Vonore fire chief Steve Wheeler. Kennedy was able to swim to the shore, Wheeler said.

The right front tire of Kennedy's vehicle was blown out, possibly causing the car to strike the bridge, he said. Wheeler said she climbed out the passenger side window and either jumped or accidently fell into the water. Kennedy was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital for treatment.
