Greenback School tabbed Brent Kilpatrick as interim football coach on Thursday, Loudon County Schools director of schools Jason Vance confirmed. Kilpatrick, who is expected to coach through this season, steps in for Dustin Lyles, who abruptly resigned on Tuesday. “I was surprised by the sudden resignation,” Greenback principal Mike Casteel said in a text mes sage, which was relayed by Vance. “However, I believe this group of (players) and coaches will be able to pull together and have a great season.” Lyles, 27, previously served as a Greenback assistant before being promoted to replace Jason Hicks in March. It was the first head-coaching job for Lyles, who remains a teacher at Greenback. The Cherokees are scheduled to play host to Loudon in their season opener on Aug. 21. |
