Glenn Williams, age 88, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 13, 2022, with his family by his side. Glenn was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir City. He was a 1954 graduate of Lenoir City High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. His sports accomplishments led to him being inducted into the Lenoir City High School Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Tennessee on a full baseball scholarship. He was a four-year letterman in baseball and pitcher for the U.T. Baseball Vols from 1956-60, as well as a part of the Tennessee Lettermen’s Wall of Fame. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in education.

“Coach Williams”, as he was known throughout Lenoir City, spent his entire 35 year career working as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and vice-principal at Lenoir City High School. Many years of his career at LCHS were spent coaching football, baseball, and basketball. He served as an assistant coach to the Lenoir City High School football team early in his coaching career. He later served as head coach for the LCHS girls’ basketball team in the early 70’s and head coach for the LCHS boys’ baseball team in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Many of his teams went on to win district and regional championships and advance to the state tournament. While working as an educator, he earned his Master’s degree and Specialist in Education (EdS) degree in Administration and Supervision at Tennessee Tech University.

In retirement, he and Judy stayed busy traveling the world. He was an avid golfer and UT Sports fan. He served as the chairman of the LCHS Sports Hall of Fame Committee. He also was instrumental in creating the Sports Hall of Fame Exhibit Hall at LCHS.

Glenn was a wonderful husband, devoted dad, and loving papa who will be missed for his love of family and compassionate heart for others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Hester Williams; son, Mark Williams; son-in-law, Lee Russell; and mother and father-in-law, Richard and Edna Owens. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judy Williams; daughters, Julie Russell and Jill Underwood (Allen); grandchildren, Emily Torbett (JT), Mark Underwood, and Cameron Stephens; great-grandchildren, Reese and Lane Torbett; and sister, Jean Ellingsworth.

The family would like to thank the caring hospice staff at Amedisys for their wonderful care of Glenn, as well as the many friends and neighbors who have shown such love and kindness. For those who would like to join the family, the graveside service will be at Lakeview Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, with Pastor John Hunn officiating.
