Georgian jailed after midnight chase

A Georgia man was arrested for driving on the wrong side of the road and speeding following a midnight police chase that ended early Thursday morning.
Lenoir City Police Officer George Eldridge was traveling south on U.S. Highway 321 at 11:52 p.m. March 29 when he observed a vehicle headed north in the wrong lane. He attempted a traffic stop on Town Creek Road, but the car increased speed.
Eldridge gave chase as the driver disregarded stop signs, nearly wrecked multiple times and reached speeds of 90 miles per hour. Officers finally took the driver, Samuel Lee Frazier, 40, of Chatsworth, Ga., into custody when he stopped at Two Rivers Church.
Officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol and saw Frazier had bloodshot, watery eyes and appeared lethargic. An open Bahama Mama Cocktail was located in the center console of Frazier’s vehicle.
Frazier told officers he “just wanted to get away” and that he had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. A search of the vehicle reveled a loaded handgun in the glovebox, three boxes of ammunition and four rifles. Frazier asked officers “did you see all the guns?” and added he “could have done a lot worse,” according to the report.
As officers waited for a truck to tow Frazier’s vehicle, he became unresponsive and EMS was dispatched to the scene. He eventually was cleared to be transported to jail. Once there, he consented to a field sobriety test and displayed signs of inebriation before stopping halfway through the test, indicating he “just didn’t care anymore.”
Frazier was charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving under the influence, evading arrest, possession of a handgun while under the influence and violation of implied consent and held on $23,000 bond.
