Georgia man hit with identity theft charges

A Georgia man and woman are facing multiple charges after law enforcement was sent to a local business on the report of a man using fraudulent credit/debit cards.

Lenoir City Police Sgt. Lynette Ladd arrived Jan. 27 at a Lenoir City grocery store where the manager claimed the man had used the cards in “numerous” grocery stores in Tennessee.

Ladd talked with Ashley Taylor Archibald, 23, who was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Keith Sennett arrived at the store with his K9, Dagger, who “alerted on the vehicle of a presence of illegal narcotics,” according to the report.

A search of the vehicle found 41 credit/debit cards, which had been altered with Onome Okpodu’s name. “Archibald did admit to driving Okpodu in her vehicle from Georgia to Tennessee, where they made numerous stops along the way for Okpodu to purchase items, including cartons of cigarettes,” Ladd wrote in her report.

Archibald said Okpodu paid her $200 to drive and that she was supposed to text him if she saw police in the area, according to the report.
Archibald, Acworth, Ga., was charged with facilitation of a felony and held on $10,000 bond.

Okpodu, 24, Fulton, Ga., was charged with 41 counts of criminal simulation and eight counts of identity theft trafficking and held without bond.
