Frozen River

Saw this video on Facebook last week. It's a video from
1940 when the Tennessee River froze over at Loudon. I had seen the still
pictures before but had never the video. Much of the video is shot from
the Loudon Side looking back toward Viscase. You can see the bridges and
the ferry. It's a nice piece of history.
Maybe someone can identify some of the folks in the video. Frozen Tennessee River, Loudon 1940 In January 1940, it was so cold in East Tennessee that the Tennessee River froze in some areas, including Loudon. This silent, 8mm home movie footage from the Ed Henderson Collection at TAMIS gives us a look at what that was like, as people came out to skate and sled across the river. |
