From The Loudon County Sheriff's Office

Because it’s not all Cop’s and Robbers, We wanted to share a great story with you - one of how routine police work reunited a missing man and his family.

After completing his regular tour of duty at midnight this morning, Deputy Austin Parton of LCSO’s 2nd Squad was looking forward to a short drive home to see his family. But fate would not have it that way for Parton. As soon as the experienced Deputy entered onto I-75 Southbound, he immediately noticed a vehicle that was being operated in a reckless manner. Fearing an intoxicated driver, and knowing that his shift was about to get much longer, Parton initiated a traffic stop to determine the status of the driver.

At the same time, Loudon County E-911 Dispatcher Sue Everett was busy behind the radio running the vehicles tag and discovered that the vehicle was associated with a missing elderly man out of Versailles, Kentucky. When Parton made his approach, he was able to confirm the identity of the 83 year old driver as that of Jon Steven Mirilovich. Mirilovich, who was once a well known Offensive Coordinator for the University of Kentucky and NC State, had been reported missing by his family yesterday after going to a local store. At the time Deputy Parton located him, he was approximately 210 miles from his Kentucky home and had lost his bearing.

Thanks to the dedicated work of both Deputy Parton and Communications Dispatcher Everett, Mirilovich was transported to safety and arrangements made with his family for his safe return home.

You see, there really is more to this job than most see. It’s the commitment to going the extra mile and being observant that brought a man home to his family and ended in with a sigh of relief for his loved ones.

Excellent work, Austin and Sue. You’re both proof that we make positive impacts on lives all over this Country and not just here at home.
