Foot chase ends in jail for local man

A Kingston man has been charged with evading arrest after running from Lenoir City officers.

Lenoir City Police Officer Chris Law was on patrol Nov. 9 when he noticed a vehicle with a dark window tint that prevented him from seeing inside.

Law initiated a traffic stop at a church in Lenoir City and watched a man, later identified as Phillip Clay Hensley Jr., 47, exit the passenger seat and begin running behind the church.

Law followed Hensley with his patrol vehicle until Hensley reached a wooded area. Law yelled at Hensley to stop, but he continued into the woods. A foot pursuit began.

Hensley still refused to stop but later fell while running in the woods. Once in proximity to Hensley, Law warned he was going to use his taser.

Hensley refused commands to halt and again began running. Law then successfully deployed his taser.

During questioning, Hensley told officers he ran because he had outstanding warrants. A check with dispatch uncovered that Hensley has a felon extradition warrant in Georgia for violation of probation and a failure to appear warrant in McMinn County.

Hensley was cleared by emergency medical services at the scene and placed under arrest. He was charged with evading arrest and fugitive from justice and held on $5,000 bond.
