Government Math

Back in June when Lenoir City mayor/council raised everyone's property taxes by nearly 17%, the mayor was quoted to say, “One thing that Lenoir City is acquiring is a new fire truck,” Aikens said. “We did receive a grant on that truck, however, there’s a $150,000 that the city must match.

At the last city council meeting, it was explained that the city actually got two grants to buy the new fire truck. I'm sure Aikens didn't know about the second grant when he made the statement. Instead of the city having to pay $150,000.00 as the mayor said, the city will only have to pay $33,628.00. The property tax hike was stated to bring in an additional $500,000.00.

So if the fire truck is only going to cost the city 34k instead of 150k, will the city tax payers get their property tax increase reduced?

Just asking.
