Election Review

Another election has come and gone with three more coming this year.

One of the most important local elections was for the 5th District commission seat. The two candidates, incumbent Joe Morrison and challenger Marty Fugate, had far different platforms. Morrison, managed controlled growth, Fugate, let the developers go wild. His position was "developers aren't the bud guys". Obviously, 65% of 5th district voters disagreed with Fugate. Morrison 1,246-Fugate 651.

Over development is still the hottest issue in most elections. Even in West Knox County, a new, relatively unknown candidate, Angela Russell, ran on a platform of controlling growth and received more votes than all the other candidates combined. Her district joins both the Loudon County 5th and 6th districts. I wish her luck up there.

The 3rd district open school board seat went Andy Disney, a life long resident of Greenback. Candidate Greg Everett finished second. Disney 603-Everett 196.

Overall, the county turnout was pretty low with only 24% of the 42,278 registered voters even bothered to vote. I can't understand that. As they say, if you don't vote, don't complain. On the bright side, 9,360 voted republican and 714 voted democrat. at 10%, Lenoir City had the highest percent of democrat votes. Wonder why that is? Maybe all the new residential development? Maybe that's the plan?

Of course Donald Trump ran away with the presidential race in the county and maybe the most telling was, sleazy Joe Biden got 666 votes. Sounds about right.

Below are a few more numbers in this election.
