Early Vote Record

Early voting broke records in yet another election. A total 6714 Loudon Countians took advantage of the convenience of early voting. That's 634 more than voted early back in the May primary. Four years ago in the 2006 August general election, only 4346 voted early with a total vote of 8485.

In the May primary election nearly 60% of the total votes cast were in early voting. If the same trend continues, that could mean more than 11,000 votes may be cast in this election which is an extremely high turnout for an August election. Unfortunately, that's still just about 33% of the registered voters in Loudon County.

Even though this was a county general election it was also the state primary. Voters had to choose whether to vote republican or democrat for the state primary election where the governor's race is the top ticket. 5868 voters voted in the republican primary with 779 voting democrat. 67 chose not to vote in either primary only voting in the county general election.

Election day is this Thursday with polls open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and if the numbers hold up, turnout could be heavy.
