Drugged man leads high-speed pursuit

A Morristown man was arrested Friday after leading law enforcement on a pursuit while on drugs.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dalton Harrison was nearly hit by a blue Mazda 3 that drove into the opposite lane on Beals Chapel Road. Harrison attempted a traffic stop at Northshore and Beals Chapel roads. The car sped on, according to a report.

Harrison activated emergency equipment while following the car, which was driven by Tony W. Thompson, 31, onto Martel Road. Thompson drove through a yard on Martel Road, causing damage, before getting back onto Martel at a high rate of speed. Thompson continued onto U.S. Highway 321 before turning onto Highway 95 toward Greenback.

During the pursuit, Thompson repeatedly drove into oncoming traffic. He turned back onto Highway 321 toward Lenoir City where spikes were deployed. Thompson drove on, running a red light at the intersection of Highways 11 and 321, Harrison wrote in a report.

Deputies boxed Thompson in on Martel Road at Avery Street where they were able to remove Thompson from the car. He told deputies he had “shot up” heroin and methamphetamine prior to the pursuit. Dispatch confirmed the car was stolen out of Sevier County.

Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene to administer NARCAN to Thompson due to him slipping in and out of consciousness.

Thompson was charged with reckless endangerment, theft of property, vandalism, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, driving under the influence, removal of registration decal or plate, driving on a revoked/suspended license, traffic control device, driving on roadways laned for traffic and speeding 21 mph over the limit and held without bond.

Man shoots rifle in home

A Lenoir City man was arrested Sunday after allegedly drunkenly shooting a rifle in his home.

Lenoir City Police Officer Jamie Pistole was dispatched to a home on Crestfield Lane to investigate reports of an intoxicated and armed man. Pistole met a juvenile who said he was at the home on Crestfield Lane when he got into an altercation with Stanley Maurice Lawson, 47.

The juvenile said Lawson became upset after he spoke with him about being intoxicated. The juvenile tried to lock himself in a bedroom but Lawson barged in and a physical fight ensued, according to a report.

Both parties hit each other multiple times. A female in the house broke up the fight. Lawson then went to a bedroom and grabbed a loaded rifle. Everyone in the house ran outside and down the street to a neighbor’s house. The neighbor called police.

After hours of negotiation and standoff, Lawson peacefully came out of the home. He told officers he fired a Ruger .22 rifle in the house and caused a hole in the ceiling.

Lawson was charged with aggravated assault and held without bond.
