Deputies: texting and driving may
have caused West Knox County crash involving dump truck
KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Officials say texting and driving may be to blame
for a three car accident in West Knox County Monday morning
involving a dump truck.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office says Madeline Arden, 19, a Pellissippi State student, was going eastbound on Hickory Creek Road around 10:15 a.m. when her 1996 Honda Accord crossed the center line and hit head-on a dump truck driven by Thomas Hall, 53, of Vonore. The dump truck was then hit from behind by a Chevy Silverado towing a boat trailer, driven by Terry Perdue, 56, of Knoxville. Arden was taken to UT Medical Center for what are described as life-threatening injuries. Neither Hall nor Perdue was injured. All three drivers were wearing seat belts. Officers say they found a cell phone in Arden's vehicle in the middle of sending a text, so she may face charges. The official cause of the crash remains under investigation. |
