Crossing Lines?

Last week, we had the Lenoir City director of schools, Jeanne Barker come to the county commission to advise us what the Loudon County school board should and should not do. But just before that, another Lenoir City politician, Chris Clabough, took to his social media page to take issue with county money donated to a nonprofit.

What Mr. Clabough, who is a Lenoir City school board member, is apparently referring to is a contribution made to Beauty For Ashes. This organization assists women through addiction recovery. Total contribution was about $73,000.00. Obviously, he knows nothing about the organization. Myself and commissioner, Joe Morrison, made the contribution to curb and pave the organization's parking lots. The money for the contribution came from the ten million dollars the county received in the American Rescue Plan Act funds, ARPA. The ARPA money was sent to every city and county in the country to be used for qualified county expenditures.

All together, county commission has contributed over $337,000.00 in ARPA funds to various county nonprofit organizations. But apparently, Mr. Clabough, took issue with just the one non-profit Morrison and I donated to. Apparently, he didn't have any issue with the million dollars donated to Lenoir City. I did respond to Mr. Clabough's post, but that's when I was blocked.

So, what's going on with Lenoir City officials that they have suddenly decided to be critical of what the county does and offer their advice? Not sure. But here's a little advice for all of them. You all take care of your yard and we'll take care of ours. I don't think being on the school board for a year and a half makes one overly qualified to be dispensing advice to anyone.

Stay in your lane.
