Cooper Protests ASFT
Wes
Cooper, long-time manager for Cooper Realty's East Tennessee sales
operations, addressed the Loudon County Planning Commission last Tuesday
to request an exemption of the Adequate Schools Facility Tax for the
basement of a home he is building in Tellico Village. Cooper
argued that the way the ASFT law is written, his basement should not be
included in the tax calculations. He maintained that since he did not
plan to heat and cool the basement area at this time, the tax does not
apply.
Members of the planning commission were not sure that his request should come to them but to a separate appeals board established for this kind of request. Ultimately however, the board denied his request. Cooper insinuated that legal action may be forthcoming. |
