Cook Legal Costs

Back in October 2021, Cook Brothers Construction filed a lawsuit against Loudon County for denying them a rezone that would have allowed Cook to build 172 homes in the Glendale and Unitia area, where it was not wanted by the community. 16 months later, the judge ruled in the county's favor finding the county had acted legally in denying Cook's rezone request.

So what does it cost for a lawsuit like this? $72,105.08. That's the amount of legal fees and court costs paid to date. If you're like me, your first thought might be, what a waste of money. But, actually it's not. It cost $72k to provide defense for tax-paying county residents who didn't want to see their community destroyed or turned into just another gross, over development of cookie cutter houses.

As far as I'm concerned, county commission did just exactly what we're elected to do, protect the citizens and communities we serve. And hopefully, this will be a strong message to other developers, that we will continue, to protect the citizens and communities we serve.

Money well spent.
