Matlock Case Reset, Again

The case of Loudon County vs. Mark Matlock has been reset again. The date for the hearing has been reset to August 23rd, 9:00 am at the Roane County Courthouse. The case has been canceled and reset several times.

Matlock had been in violation of county zoning regulations since November 2018 when he built his pool house on his neighbor's property line violating setback laws. Matlock promised for two years that he would correct the issue, but never did. Ultimately, the county was forced to file suit against Matlock for the ongoing violation. He allegedly corrected the violation in August of 2022.

The court hearing is to determine just how much the fine for his 1,383 days of violation will be. The maximum penalty, at $50 per day, could be $69,150.00. Of course, he could have avoided all the penalty if he had just complied back in 2018 when he was first cited.

Matlock, a developer, ran for county commission last this year on a platform of mass development. He lost badly.
