Case Dismissed

Apparently, holding true to his threat, Lenoir City Judge Terry Vann dismissed most of the cases that came before him at Thursday's city court. According to court sources, the judge dismissed maybe as many as 20-25 of the cases that came before him.

Last month, Judge Vann met with the city personal committee to request hefty raises for the two employees who currently work for him. The committee rejected his request deferring the matter the the budget committee for consideration in the next budget cycle. Unhappy with the committee's decision the judge stated "I guess we can slow down our collections." Dismissing cases will definitely slow down collections.

Currently Judge Vann holds court about five times per month for a salary of around $52,000.00. Some city officials have suggested that if court collections go down they might be forced to reduce the the judges salary.
