| In 2003, the
County undertook a sewer extension project to service a large area
in and around the Eaton Cross Roads community. The engineer
contracted by the County to supervise and manage the project was
Mike Callahan owner of CE DESIGNERS INC. Mr. Callahan
contracted fee was $88,500.00 to engineer and over see the project.
Unbeknown to the Commission, Mr. Callahan requested and received an
additional $15,000.00 for his services bringing his whole take in
the project to nearly $103,500.00. The actual construction project
ultimately ran $100,000.00 plus, over budget and ten months behind
schedule. Unbelievably, Mr. Callahan had the gall to bill the County for an additional $6,172.20. I got involved with this project at this point and exposed massive mismanagement of the entire project. Needless to say, Mr. Callahan is not a big fan of mine. Mr. Callahan was also the engineer on the Eaton Forest sewer project. The County has so far had to pay out more than $16,000.00 in settlements to property owners whose property did not receive a sewer tap as required in the contract.
