Busselltown

Ran across this little paperback book the other day. The title Busselltown written by Henry Molter.

The book tells the history of Busselltown, a community that once sat on a small finger of land across the Tennessee River from Lenoir City. The area was defined on the east and north by the Tennessee River and on the west by the Little Tennessee River.

Bussell Island sat across the eastern slough of the Little Tennessee River, opposite the peninsula where Busselltown eventually developed.

Mr. Molter uses a number of archival sources for his research, and oral histories.

As history played out, the little community, Busselltown became known for two things – ferries and whiskey.

The book is available at the American Commissary just across the highway from the old IGA and I think the Lenoir City library has a copy of it. It's a good read and just twelve dollars if you want to buy one.
