Boldfaced Liar

Hopefully, you've already read the preceding News Harold story, Hurley residency hearing scheduled. In that story, in one short  paragraph, Ms. Hurley's attorney told four boldfaced lies.

“We are looking forward to our day in court and a further reflection of what Ms. Hurley has claimed all along that the home that she purchased was for investment purposes and that she is safely ensconced back in the home in her district, I believe it’s 5th avenue,” Jones said. “It’s effectively the absolute what we said was before. In addition, we think it’s extraordinarily interesting that they have actually propagated plans — not by her, she had nothing to do with it — to actually rezone the other home in her district. ... There’s a set of plans out there going on to that and, of course, Van Shaver makes the specific statement that he’s not going to do it or won’t let that see the light of day because he’s suing Julia.” News Herald 9/29/21

Lie #1- "Ms. Hurley has claimed all along that the home that she purchased was for investment purposes." Both Hurley and her attorney, Terence Scott Jones, have told so many different stories about her moving out of her elected district, they can't even keep their stories straight.

When first asked about her move from her elected district, by chairman Cullen back in 2019, she stated that she had not moved and was still living in the same house she lived in when elected. Then she told County Mayor Bradshaw that she actually had moved but it was temporary while having foundation work done on her former home. Then she and he said it was an investment property to fix up and flip. Now, she bought it for rental property.

Lie #2- "In addition, we think it’s extraordinarily interesting that they have actually propagated plans — not by her, she had nothing to do with it — to actually rezone the other home in her district. .. "

What Terence Scott Jones is referring to is "Plan D" that was that was sent to the redistricting committee before last week's meeting. He says she had nothing to do with those plans. Ms. Hurley did in fact help propagate those plans, meeting with the property assessor days before the redistricting meeting to help craft "Plan D". In his lack of understanding, he refers to it a plan to "rezone" her fifth district home into the second district. Had he known what he was talking about, what he should have said was, redistrict her fifth district home into the second district.

Lie #3- "Van Shaver makes the specific statement that he’s not going to do it or won’t let that see the light of day because he’s suing Julia.”

I've never said I wouldn't let any plan see the light of day to anyone or try to prevent a plan from being considered. The redistricting committee had 11 voting members. How could any one member stop any plan from being presented?

Lie #4- "he's suing Julia" meaning me. It's hard to imagine how an attorney could be so ignorant of the facts of his own case to make such a statement, that I'm suing Julia. I'm not suing Julia Hurley, county commission is not suing Julia Hurley, and Loudon County is not suing Julia Hurley. The district attorney took suit against Julia Hurley after an investigation revealed that she had in fact moved out of her elected district.

There are good, honest lawyers in the world. My son is a lawyer, but lawyers like Terence Scott Jones are who give all lawyers bad reputations. He fits the description that so many people use to describe lawyers, paid liars.
