With the April 1st deadline past, a
number of the races for the August election are set. For the county
election, four school board seats will be on the ballot. Two seats in
the second district, the forth district and the sixth district. Second
district school board member, Larry Proaps, will not seek reelection.
the other second district member, Bobby Johnson Jr. and forth district
board member, Leroy Tate will be unopposed. Sixth district member, Steve
Harrelson, is running for county commission which leaves his school
board seat vacant.
Qualifying to run for Proap's vacated
seat is William Jenkins and Christopher Thomas. Looking to fill
Harrelson's vacated seat will be Christie Allen Kreischer and Keva
Largent.
21st district Representative, Jimmy
Matlock and 5th District State Senator, Randy Mcnally will be unopposed
for their reelections. 32 District incumbent State Representative,
Dennis Ferguson, will be facing opposition from a fellow democrat in the
August election that is also a state primary election. Democrat James
Tapp, Roane County, will challenge Ferguson for his seat in the primary.
Two republicans will also be vying for a shot at the seat in the
primary. Julia C. Hurley (Loudon Co) will face Jason Bagnell (Roane Co)
for the right to represent the republicans against the democrat winner
in August.
Both parties will also elect a committee
man and woman to represent their respective parties.
