Attempted Pokemon theft ends in arrest

A South Carolina man is facing several charges after a call about stolen items at a retail store on U.S. Highway 321.

Lenoir City Police Officers Riley Miller and Andrew Lee responded after the store’s loss prevention team watched Travis John Plavka conceal merchandise and leave the store.

“While in route, loss prevention stated that they observed the male subject empty two cereal boxes and replace (the) cereal with packages of Pokemon cards,” Miller wrote in a report. “The male concealed the Pokemon cards into both cereal boxes where he then taped the cereal boxes shut and (proceeded) by going to self-check out to pay for only the two cereal boxes and not paying for the cards that were inside of the boxes.”
Lee and Miller detained Plavka in the parking lot near his white Dodge pickup truck. Plavka gave consent for a search of his vehicle, where officers found .60 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
“Plavka stated that he had used methamphetamine only a couple of times,” Miller wrote in a report.
Plavka, 31, of Simpsonville, S.C., was charged with theft of property and manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth and released on $62,000 bond.

A Lenoir City man was arrested Thursday for aggravated assault stemming from a Nov. 20 incident.

According to a report from Lenoir City Police Officer Jason Arden, Andrew Joseph Jenkins, 40, attempted to take a 20-month-old boy from a woman and tried to “wipe a real injury that he believed was fake from (the boy’s) head.”

Jenkins grabbed the boy and put his other arm around the woman’s neck in a choking manner that restricted her ability to breathe, Arden wrote in a report. Jenkins then threw the woman across the room.
