Asian Invasion 15
Walton Speaks

Anthony Sparrow, a representative of Walton Global, the company who owns the 400 acres in Hotchkiss Valley, addressed the county commission last Monday. A large crowd of residents were on hand to hear the presentation. The property has been at the center of a lot of controversy when it was learned that over ten million dollars has been invested in the property by mostly Asian/Chinese investors.

Mr. Sparrow was very straight forward in saying that Walton was in business to make money. He was less clear as to why there was so much foreign investment in the property. But he wanted to be clear that the Asian/Chinese investors would never step foot on the property. Commissioner Bill Satterfield responded that that might be true but those investors, from a country hostel to America, would be profiting from America.

In short, Walton would like to get a rezoning that would allow for high density for the property. However, the commission made it clear that the property would not be rezoned. Currently, the property is zoned A-1, allowing only one acre minimum lots.

Mr. Sparrow said he doesn't know what the future of the property will be.

Below is a link to the meeting. The conversation on the Hotchkiss Valley property begins at the 24:00 minute mark.
