Armed standoff ends in Sunday arrest

A Maryville man was arrested Sunday in Lenoir City after threatening another man with a rifle.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Luke Hawkins responded to a Lenoir City home on a call of an unwanted guest. Hawkins met a man who said he had been chopping wood and trash with a machete because he was about to start a fire when Jason Lane Aldridge, 50, began walking toward him with a .22-caliber rifle.

The man said he asked Aldridge if he would let him shoot the gun, but Aldridge replied “you need to leave,” continued his advance and loaded a magazine into the weapon.

The man said he put his machete down and told Aldridge to do the same with the gun and “fight him like a real man.” He told deputies he felt threatened and that Aldridge was being hostile.

Aldridge eventually returned to his vehicle and placed the gun inside.

A witness confirmed the man’s story, but Aldridge denied the account, claiming the man had been the one to approach Aldridge unprovoked and threatened to kill him.

A second individual drove away in Aldridge’s car and got rid of the gun but later turned it over to Hawkins as evidence. After running Aldridge’s information through dispatch, Hawkins learned Aldridge was a convicted felon.
Aldridge was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon and held without bond.
