After twenty-eight years of serving the community,
the old Dinner Bell Restaurant is no more. Literally. Wrecking crews
began demolition of the building Tuesday morning and by early afternoon
the building was gone.
The restaurant actually closed a couple of months ago
but the building was still in place. The owners decided to raze the
structure rather than to make the up grades that would be required to
bring the old building up to new codes.
The adjoining business, Smokey Mountain Motors, will
be leasing the property for their operation.
Just across the street yet another old restaurant is
coming down at least partially. What us long timers refer to as the old
Kentucky Fried Chicken building which later became Tokyo Hibachi
Express, is being revamped as a new Dunkin' Doughnuts hopefully to be
open in the very near future.
