911 call ends in Georgia man's arrest

A Georgia man was arrested for domestic assault after a June 7 argument turned physical.

Lenoir City Police Officer Michael J. Arden responded to investigate a 911 hang-up in which dispatchers could hear a woman screaming in the background. When Arden arrived at the residence, he could hear a woman crying and the raised voice of a man.

The woman who answered the door appeared distraught but Mark John Oleson, 51, Lawrenceville, Ga., seemed calm. The woman repeated exclaimed “he has my phone,” and Oleson was detained when the woman’s phone was located in Oleson’s pocket. A strong smell of alcohol was coming from Oleson, according to the report.

Oleson told Arden that he and the woman had been arguing because she wanted him to move out after six weeks of the pair living together. He said she had hidden his phone during another argument and he took her phone as collateral until his was returned.

Oleson said there was no physical contact during the argument, but he displayed scratch marks on his forearm, according to the report.

Arden confirmed with the woman that she had hidden Oleson’s phone and the two had been a relationship for about three months. The woman said she had slept on the couch because Oleson had been drinking all night. Oleson began moving loudly around the house at 4 a.m., which prompted an argument about him leaving.

The woman said the argument became physical when Oleson started chasing her, and she ran out the back door to call 911. Oleson then grabbed the woman’s arms, pinned them to the side of the house and took the phone. She had bruising on her upper arms consistent with her story.

Oleson was charged with domestic assault and interference with an emergency call and released without bond.
