Loudon County crash kills two

PHILADELPHIA - Two Loudon residents died in a single-vehicle crash when the sports car they were in ran off the road and struck a tree.

Neither of the occupants was using a seat belt during the 5:57 p.m. Wednesday crash, according to a report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Kris Underwood.

Vaugh R. McNew, 21, was driving the 1993 Honda Civic del Sol along Sunnyside Road when the convertible left the road, Underwood noted.

A passenger, Mary M. Flohr, 22, also died in the crash at 11505 Sunnyside Road, according to Underwood.

The speed limit on Sunnyside Road is 35 mph, Underwood wrote.

Underwood noted it was unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the wreck, but he requested tests for both substances on the deceased.
