LENOIR CITY (WATE) - All lanes of Interstate 40 East are back
open after one person was killed in a fiery crash involving
two tractor-trailers and a truck Tuesday morning.
Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers say the crash happened
around 6:30 a.m. at mile marker 364 in Loudon County.
Troopers say a semi driven by Geoffrey Herman Jr., 24, was
traveling eastbound when it rear-ended a Ford F-150 driven by
Charles Phillips, 24, of Lenoir City.
The impact caused the pickup truck to then crash into a semi
driven by Christopher Shuffler, 50, leaving Phillips vehicle
sandwiched between them.
Phillips was killed in the crash.
The three vehicles remained on fire for several hours but THP
says no one else was injured.
The interstate reopened around 3:15 p.m.
Charges are pending.
